Period 1 Comic strip & Welcome to the unit Teaching goals

● To talk about routines and activities ● To respond to questions about daily life Teaching procedures Step 1 Presenting

Say: We have many activities to do every day. (Write the word „activity‟ and its plural form „activities‟ on the Bb. Ask students to guess its meaning.) I do lots of activities every day. First, I get up at 6:30 a.m.. Then I have breakfast at 6:50 a.m.. At 7:00 a.m. I go to work. What about you? Can you tell me your activities every day? Step 2 Practicing

1. Ask students to say different activities they do every day and write them on the Bb. Ask weaker students to look at page 19 and say the activities. 2. Then read these activities together.

3. Ask: What do you do first in the morning? (If students‟ answer is “I get up in the morning.” tell them they are wrong. The first thing we do in the morning is to wake up. Teach the phrase „wake up‟ and explain its meaning.) What do you do after you wake up? (get up) What do you do after you get up? … 4. Ask: When do you wake up? When do you get up?…

5. Ask students to look at the table of page 19. Go through the table. Ask students to say a complete passage with two different pronouns. (I get up at 6:30 a.m..I have breakfast at 7:00 a.m.. / Millie gets up at 6:30 a.m.. She eats breakfast at 7:00 a.m.. )

6. Ask students to finish the second table on page 19. Then choose one or two students to read his/her tables. (Ask students to read a passage.) Step 3 Listening

Play the tape of comic strip. Before listening, ask a question: What does Eddie do after lunch? (He goes to sleep.) Listen to the tape with the books open. After listening, ask a student to answer the question. Listen again. Try to answer the following questions: 1. What is Eddie doing? (He‟s sleeping.) 2. What is Hobo doing? (He is waking up Eddie.) 3. What time is it? (It‟s time for breakfast.)

4. What does Eddie want to do after breakfast? (He wants to go to sleep.)

5. Does he go to sleep after lunch? (Yes, he does.) What does Eddie like doing? (Eating and sleeping.) Step 4 Practicing 1. Read the dialogue. 2. Act it out.

Step 5 Making a summary

Today we have learned how to talk about daily routines and activities. That is “subject (主语)+activities + time”. Step 6 Doing consolidation exercises Translation

1. 我早上6点钟醒来,10分种后我起床。 I wake up at 6 a.m. and get up 10 minutes later. 2. 他早上6点半吃早饭,然后去上学。

He has breakfast at 6:30 a.m.. Then he goes to school. 3. 是午饭时间了。(两种)

It‟s time to have lunch. / It‟s time for lunch. 4. 我不知道如何照顾我的狗。

I don‟t know how to look after my dog. 5. 做完早操后我们就上课了。

We have lessons after we do morning exercises. 6. 你要做什么?我要去做课外活动。

What‟re you going to do? I‟m going to do after-school activities. Step 7 Doing homework 1. Revise today‟s phrases.

2. Write down your everyday activities. 3. Read and recite the dialogue.
