A cryogenic liquid such asliquid nitrogen is turned into a slush within a container such as a standard cryogenicstorage vial by applying suction to create a partial vacuum above the liquid. The sampleto be cooled is dropped into the slush and is subsequently stored in the container withinwhich it was cooled.
