摘要：A method codes a hierarchical subband system of coefficients of a wavelettransform that is representative of an image. One step of this method includes receivingthe coefficients of a wavelet transform. A second step includes selecting a first pluralityof thresholds ranges. A third step includes comparing the coefficients of a tree structureof coefficients against the plurality of threshold ranges during a first single traversal ofthe tree structure. A fourth step includes coding the coefficients of the tree structurewith symbols based on whether the coefficients are or are not within at least one of theplurality of threshold ranges. A method may include defining a set of symbols for codinga hierarchical subband system of coefficients of a wavelet transform that isrepresentative of an image. This method includes defining a first set of significancesymbols that are representative of the significance of a coefficient with respect to aselected and defining a first set of tree structure traversal symbols that indicate the pathin which the tree structure should be traversed and the tree structure traversal symbolsbeing operative for combining with selected ones of the significance symbols.
