The kind of friends I like

Friends are the people who choose us, and we choose them. Friends are important to us because we are social creatures, and need someone we can relate to besides family.

Life is not meant to be alone. Without others we die. Friends are like water. You can’t live without it.

The friends I will make are kindhearted, confident and understanding.

Firstly, with your age increasing, you are a adult you want to do some business or you will create a company as a manager.Kindhearted friends will give me some useful advise help me to get successful as soon as possible.

Secondly, confident friend could give power to me. When we fail in the exams, friends make us full of confidence. When we feel upset, friends give happiness to us. When we want to give up, friends tell me to continue.

Finally, there's some stuff that I can't talk to family and I don't want to go to another family member for advice because I don't want them to have to choose .If it nice to have understanding friends,it helps me express myself.

All in all, receiving support and help from a friend gives us confidence and makes us feel like we have someone there for us.

Saving up money or spending it?

Nowadays in the developed and developing countries, people are all working for the sake of earning money. Some people, especially the older generation, like saving money. The older generation live very conservatively. They don’t spend a lot of money,

Others, especially the modern youth, are consumption-crazy. The modern youth like to live in the moment. That means they don’t spend a lot of time thinking about

the future. So they aren’t very good at saving. If they do save, it is usually so they can buy something specific, like a new instrument. Most of them spend much more than we need to on essentially useless items. Items that seen inexpensive and insignificant at the time can quite quickly add up to large sums of money.

I’m actually in between, I like spending money on stuff I love to have. The man who can spent money is the one who can earn more. But I hate being broke so I have to save a little bit now and then. So save what little money as we can and spend what we must pay.

I hear many parents complaining that their teenage children are rebelling. I wish it were so. At you age you ought to be growing away from your parents. You should be learning to stand on your own two feet. But take a good look at the present rebellion. It seems that teenagers are all taking the same way of showing that they disagree with their parents. Instead of striking out boldly on their own, most of them are clutching at one another’s hands for reassurance.

They claim they want to dress as they please. But all wear the same clothes. They set off in new directions in music. But somehow they all end up huddled round listening to the same record. Their reason for thinking or acting in thus-and-such a way is that the crowd is doing it. they have come out of their cocoon (茧) — into a larger cocoon.

It has become harder and harder for a teenager to stand up against the popularity wave and to go his or her own way. Industry has firmly carved out a teenage market. These days every teenager can learn from the advertisements what a teenager should have and be. And many of today’s parents have come to award high marks for the popularity of the children. All this adds up to a great barrier for the teenager who wants to find his or her own path.

But the barrier is worth climbing over. The path is worth following. You may want to listen to classical music instead of going to a party. You may want to collect rocks when everyone else is collecting records. You may have some thoughts that you don’t care to share at once with your classmates. Well, go to it. Find yourself. Be yourself. popularity will come — with the people who respect you for who you are. That’s the only kind of popularity that really counts.

当前位置:阅读理解(一)>>Passage Two

It is natural for young people to be critical of their parents at times and to blame them for most of the misunderstanding between them. they have always complained, more? or less justly, that they are possessive and dominant; that they do not trust their children to deal with crisis; that they talk too much about certain problems — and that they have no sense of humor, at least in parent-child relationships.

I think it is true that parents often underestimate their teenage children and also forget how they themselves felt when young.

Young people often irritate parents with their choices in clothes and hairstyles, in entertainers and music. This is not their motive. They feel cut off form the adult world into which they have not yet accepted. So they create a culture and society of their own. Then, if it turns out that their music or entertainers or vocabulary or clothes or hairstyles irritate their parents, this gives them additional enjoyment. They feel they are superior, at least in a small way, and that they are leaders in style and taste.

Sometimes you are resistant, and proud because you do not want your parents to approve of what you do. If they did approve, it looks as if you are betraying your own age group. but in that case, you are assuming that you are the underdog (处于劣势者) :you can’t win but at least you can keep you honor. This is passive way of looking at things. It is natural enough after long years of childhood, when you were completely under your parents’ control. But it ignores the fact that you are now beginning to be responsible for yourself.

If you plan to control your life, cooperation can be part of that plan. You can impress others, especially your parents, into doing things the way you want. You can impress others with your sense of responsibility and initiative, so that they will give you the authority to do what you want to do.
