Some years ago, I went to Australia for a meeting with my friend, Chris. We decided to drive across country to Brisbane to visit another friend after the meeting ended.
The first day we were excited and laughing at each other's jokes. By the third day of driving in the endless desert, we began to get bored. We had been quiet for a few hours when suddenly Chris saw some kangaroos. We were both excited and decided to get a closer look. Chris accelerated to catch up with the kangaroos. We got closer and closer, and Chris was doing 110 kilometers per hour. We were very close to the kangaroos—too close—when we heard a loud BANG!
Chris stopped the car and we got out. Behind the car was a large kangaroo lying still on the ground. Chris went over to the kangaroo and put his baseball cap on its head. He took off his sunglasses and put them on the kangaroo and did the same with his jacket. Then, he put his arm around the kangaroo and told me to take a photo of them together. I was still in shock, but I took out my camera. While I was taking the photo, I saw the kangaroo move. It suddenly woke up, looked at Chris, and jumped away into the distance before we could do anything.
I started laughing but Chris looked very serious. He said his purse and passport(护照) were in the jacket. I started laughing even harder. I stopped laughing, however, when he said our car keys were also in the jacket.

In the eyes of many foreigners, Chinese are the best hosts(主人) and the worst guests in the world, while in the eyes of Chinese guests, western hosts sometimes look rude.
In China, guests are almost like gods. Whenever I enter a Chinese person’s home, there is always fruit on the table for me, and someone is quick to bring me a cup of tea or water. My wife’s mother, a very kind elderly Chinese lady, doesn’t smoke. When I see some of her guests smoking in her house, as a non-smoker, I feel unhappy. Usually I want to stop them directly, but I must realize that in China, to be a good host, she must not do that. In most North America homes, if you are a guest, and the hosts are not smokers, you should not smoke in their house. At the very least, you could ask, “Is it OK if I smoke?” But, don’t be surprised if they say, “No, you can’t smoke.”
Guests in China also have special habits. Some western people may not adapt to these habits very soon. Thankfully my wife is Chinese, so whenever we visit a Chinese family, she tells me to buy them a gift. However, giving a gift to a host is not always necessary in my country. So, if you invite international guests to your home, don’t be too surprised if they don’t bring you a gift.
26. According to the passage, who will follow the hosts’ habits?
A. Foreigners B. Chinese C. Americans
D. Englishmen
B.Lijiang River National Park D.the Louvre
C.Zurich and Paris
27. If the writer’s guests want to smoke in his house, what will he probably say?
A. Sorry, you can’t smoke here. B. Let’s smoke together.

A. Many foreigners think that Chinese hosts are the best in the world. B. When a western guest visits a Chinese family, he often feels like a god. C. It’s necessary for a western guest to visit a friend’s home with some gifts.
D. If western hosts invite Chinese guests to their houses, guests usually buy some gifts for hosts. 30. What is the main idea of this passage?
A. Foreigners should learn from Chinese. B. Hosts must do things in the guest’s way. C. Western hosts are always nice to guests.
D. People should understand cultural difference.
