Living in school dorm or renting room off campus

Nowadays, many college students have complained about the life in the dorm, and there is a big tendency that more and more students choose to rent a room off campus. Some people are back for this move, while others are against it. I believe they all have their reasons. Living off campus does lead to some effects, both positive and negative.

In the first place, living alone means you don’t have to accommodate others’ schedules and habits. It guarantees privacy and allows you to concentrate on your studies. Take my university for example; we were living in a dorm which was shared by six freshmen. However, everyone has her own schedule and living habits, it’s hard for us to change our own living habits to go for every other ones. Then quarrels may occur.

Next, living alone helps one avoid fighting with others. The more people living together means the more possibilities fighting may occur. For those who are not good at socializing, the situation may get worse. Instead of spending too much energy on personal relations, avoiding the problem and moving out can be a good choice.

However, every coin has its two sides, there are also many disadvantages living off campus. Obviously, living off campus means the extra money you have to pay on the rent. Plus, renting private room off campus lacks proper school management and safety measures. This is an important issue for students,

especially for girls. Besides, living alone results in the lack of communication with other students, which will make you live out of the circle of your friends and classmates, thus you need to find ways to solve the problems.

To live on or to live off campus, that’s the question. It brings benefits as well as inconveniences. How to make the choice? It totally depends on your own situation to balance the two of those sides.
