Summary
--After reading Where Do We Go from Here
Where Do We Go from Here is another powerful speech of Martin Luther King Jr.
after I Have A Dream, He named his speech with “Where do we go from here”, which mainly talks about the blacks were still in a weak statue at that time in America and how to improve with a proper way to fight for the future victory. He positively encouraged non-violence and direct action, regarding that as the most efficient way in the social reform. He also realized that the blacks can only gain freedom and justice in America whenever they realize their statue with reason sublimate themselves in the spiritual.
In the first part, Martin Luther King Jr. raised a question to let black know what
situation they are in. They have to absorb almost all bad things in life and nearly no good things in life.
In the second part, he put forward some solutions to the status quo. They must
massively assert their dignity and worth, rise up with an affirmation of their own Olympian manhood, organize their strength in terms of economic and political power and develop a program that will drive the nation to a guaranteed annual income. In order to bring a security for its own sake and a state of society where want is abolished, the blacks have to improve the condition of mankind, extend knowledge, increase power enrich literature and elevate thoughts.
In the third part, he raised his idea of the non-violence. He realized that “a violent
revolution on the part of American blacks would find no sympathy and support from the white population and very little from the majority of the Negroes themselves”.
And the conclusion focuses on that the future of the blacks is bright but the road
ahead is still hard. However, in order to achieve their goals, they should have the courage to face the uncertainties of the future, at the same time, they should believe in their deep hearts that the brightness is coming.
